What’s new in SQL Server 2008 R2 and What’s in your procedure Cache

The SQL Server User Group will be running an upcoming event in Edinburgh on 3rd February discussing the new features in SQL Server 2008 R2 and finding out what is in your procedure cache.

18:30 – 19:30 – SQL Server 2008 R2 :: the X factor for DBA’s life – Satya Shyam K Jayanty

By now you know about what’s new in SQL Server 2008 R2, this session we will overview on highlights of  how SQL Server 2008 R2 manageability features can help DBAs day-to-day life with an eX-tra factor.

19:50 – 20:50 – What’s in your procedure cache? – Rob Carrol

Do you know what’s in your procedure cache? This presentation will look at the procedure cache, what is in it, how it is used and what can effect it. It will show you how to use DMVs to determine the cache usage, how programming techniques effect how the cache is used, how plans in the cache can be re-used, and how query plan use can be optimized. It will also investigate the new “optimize for ad hoc workloads” option in SQL Server 2008.

Rob Carrol has been working with SQL Server since 1999, initially as a web developer, but primarily in a DBA and consultancy capacity. He joined Microsoft in 2008 as a SQL Server Premier Field Engineer, working with some of Microsoft’s largest clients in the UK and Europe. Rob lives in South Ayrshire, Scotland and he’s married with 2 daughters. When he’s not working with SQL Server you’ll usually find him playing his Xbox and hiding from his kids!
